A Mike Pence spokesman set the record straight on Tuesday, saying that a Federal Election Commission filing announcing the 2024 candidacy for the former vice president is fake.
“Former Vice President Mike Pence did not file to run for President today,” Devin O’Malley, who was Pence’s press secretary in the White House, wrote on Twitter.
The filing listed Pence’s full name and an address in his home state of Indiana.

Pence has said that he is considering a 2024 bid for the White House, but he has not made a decision yet. He also said that if he does decide to run, he will announce his intentions in 2023.
“I didn’t have it on my Bingo card for ANY of the days between Christmas and New Year considering Pence has been saying that if there was an announcement to be made, it would [sic] made in 2023!” O’Malley added.
If Pence decides to run, he will join former President Donald Trump as a Republican candidate.
Pence has distanced himself from Trump and his time serving as vice president during the Trump administration following the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack. Trump and his team pressured Pence that day to use his role as the overseer of President Joe Biden’s 2020 win certification to reject certain electors in swing states to keep Trump in the White House. Pence refused to go along with their plan.
Trump formally announced his bid for the White House in November even though he is currently the focus of numerous investigations for possibly illegally taking classified White House documents with him after his administration ended, interfering with 2020 election results in Georgia and allegedly inciting the Capitol riots.
