Far-Right GOP Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene & Paul Gosar Get Top Committee Assignments

Far right-wing Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) and Paul Gosar (R-Arizona) were named to key committees in Kevin McCarthy‘s (R-California) House after Democrats removed them from their assignments when they were in control for making controversial comments.

The House steering panel, which is mainly comprised of House GOP leadership, announced that Greene will join the House Homeland Security Committee while Gosar will take a seat on the House Committee on Natural Resources. Gosar was previously on the committee before he got booted for a social media post that portrayed violence against President Joe Biden and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York).

Greene was removed for spreading conspiracy theories about Jews. The assignments still need to be approved by the House GOP as a whole, but precedent suggests that they will support the steering panel’s decision.

Greene responded to the news in a statement, emphasizing the work the committee will do to secure the Southern border.

“Joe Biden, be prepared,” she added. “We are going to uncover every corrupt business dealing, every foreign entanglement, every abuse of power, and every check cut for The Big Guy. And it’s not just the Biden Crime Family, the GOP majority will investigate every bit of government being used to abuse the American people. Every three and four-letter agency will now have to answer to Republican oversight, not the rubber-stamp of Democrat rule.”

McCarthy had long promised to restore Greene and Gosar’s committee assignments, while also stating that he would remove prominent Democratic Reps. Adam Schiff (California), Eric Swalwell (California) and Ilhan Omar (Minnesota) in retribution for stripping Greene and Gosar of their assignments when the Democrats had the majority.
