Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis criticized Republicans, particularly House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), as he continues to investigate her over misconduct allegations during her prosecution of former President Donald Trump‘s Georgia election inference case.

“Jim Jordan has, time after time, attacked my office with no legitimate purpose,” Willis told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow. “Anyone who knows Jim Jordan’s history knows that he only has the purpose of trying to interfere in a criminal investigation.”

As the lead in the Georgia 2020 election interference case against Trump and his 18 co-defendants, Willis has been under fire the last couple of months due to her alleged romantic affair and travel spree with Nathan Wade, a prosecutor she assigned to the case.

Wade resigned from the case in March after Judge Scott McAfee ruled that Willis’ office could keep the case as long as Wade stepped down.

Similarly, earlier this year, Willis received backlash from Jordan after he threatened to hold her in contempt of Congress if she did not cooperate with an investigation into her use of federal grant funds.

While Willis cooperated, she called such threats “illegitimate,” saying that Jordan’s actions were “disgusting.”

“He has now turned his tricks too; he’s going to look at grant problems, which I invite him to do,” said Willis. “All while his jurisdiction has one of the worst crime rates, has poverty issues and not one time has he used his position to try to investigate people who are attacking me and attacking others legitimately doing their jobs.”

Amid the backlash from her federal and state investigations, Willis defended her actions, explaining why such criticisms are unfounded.

“I bring that up at the federal level because now at the state level, they’ve decided to follow this clown’s lead, and they want to now try to interfere in an investigation,” said Willis, “And it’s not legitimate either. And so, it shall fail, and it’s not going anywhere. But they are trying to attack me at every level.”

Last week, Willis won the Georgia Democratic primary for her position. However, the Georgia criminal case against Trump has been delayed due to allegations of misconduct against her.
