Elon Musk, Tesla CEO and President Donald Trump’s biggest campaign donor, reportedly has a drug habit that is alarming friends and colleagues.
According to a new report in The New York Times, Musk is a regular user of ketamine, Ecstasy, psychedelic mushrooms and Adderall. Sources close to Musk have revealed that he was taking drugs that were more intense than ones he used previously as well as more frequently. Musk has been using ketamine to the extent that his bladder has now been affected by drug usage.
Musk’s drug usage has grown over time and increased significantly during Trump’s 2024 campaign, which Musk donated over $200 million toward.
Following Trump’s re-election, Musk was appointed as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), where his erratic behavior was often noted in the White House.

Trump was asked about Musk’s drug usage, to which he replied that he was not aware of Musk’s situation. Trump called Musk “fantastic,” as well as saying that he was not worried about Musk’s situation.
Musk was asked about his drug use during a press conference, but Musk told the reporter to proceed to other topics instead. He also criticized the Times’ credibility.
On May 28, Musk announced that he was stepping down from DOGE, wishing to focus his attention on Tesla and SpaceX, which have suffered significant setbacks in his absence.
Musk has previously said that he doesn’t enjoy taking illegal substances and was prescribed ketamine for depression. The CEO smoked weed during an interview on Joe Rogan’s podcast in 2018. While the act was not legal, it disturbed executives at his companies.
It is not clear if Musk continued to take drugs during his tenure at the White House. During the presidential campaign as well as his time in the White House, he displayed unpredictable behavior, such as degrading government officials and performing a salute that’s been deemed as a Nazi salute by many.
