Elon Musk’s Plan To Slash Federal Workforce Raises Concerns In D.C.

President-elect Donald Trump is planning to come into office with an effort to drastically downsize the government.

Two businessmen, Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, are co-leaders of Trump’s effort and have offered him a plan to put into action.

Musk and Ramaswamy plan to volunteer their time to work with the new administration alongside the White House Office of Management and Budget.

They will advise regulatory cuts, administrative reductions and cost-savings.

They will work with legal experts to identify rules agencies’ authority that has exceeded what was given by Congress. Any violations will be presented to Trump for review.

“The number of federal employees to cut should be at least proportionate to the number of federal regulations that are nullified: Not only are fewer employees required to enforce fewer regulations, but the agency would produce fewer regulations once its scope of authority is properly limited,” Musk and Ramaswamy wrote in a Wall Street Journal op-ed.

They aim to have employees who are cut transfer to work in the private sector.

Trump’s advisers say the president can only be stopped from firing federal workers if he targets specific workers.

Ramaswamy offered the idea to fire workers based on Social Security numbers at random to avoid charges of discrimination.

Many in D.C. are criticizing Trump’s plan to slash the federal government and its workers. But Musk and Ramaswamy are standing by him, “We are prepared for the onslaught from entrenched interests in Washington. We expect to prevail.”
