Doug Emhoff delivered an emotional speech on Tuesday at the Democratic National Convention.
During his speech at the United Center, the second gentleman spoke about his blended family and praised his wife, Vice President Kamala Harris. The crowd chanted “Doug, Doug” in support of Emhoff.
Emhoff emphasized Harris’ pursuit of justice to the crowd, referencing her time as a prosecutor.
“She finds joy in pursuing justice, she stands up to bullies just like my parents taught me to. She likes to see people do well but hates when they’re treated unfairly,” Emhoff said. He continued by saying, “Here’s the thing about joyful warriors. They’re still warriors.”

Emhoff also spoke about facing a coward and how she can handle it.
“She knows the best way to deal with a coward is to take him head-on because we all know cowards are weak,” Emhoff said. “And Kamala Harris can smell weakness.”
He also told the crowd that Harris’s empathy is her strength.
Emhoff also focused on his blended family with Harris and how she is family-focused. He told the crowd that Harris helped him connect to his Jewish faith, so they both support each other at the Synagogue or at Church during holy days. Harris also encouraged Emhoff to battle antisemitism using his platform.
Emhoff also told the crowd that Harris would speak before the DNC on their tenth wedding anniversary and that marrying her “was the best decision I ever made.”
“I love you so much; I’m so proud of how you’re stepping up for all of us. But that’s who she is, wherever she’s needed, however, she’s needed, Kamala rises to the occasion,” Emhoff said. “She’s ready to lead. She brings both joy and toughness to this task and she will be a great president we will all be proud of.”
Emhoff also used his speech to thank his ex-wife Kerstin Emhoff “for always putting family first.”
The second gentleman was introduced by his son, Cole Emhoff. Prior to his introduction, the convention played a video narrated by Cole that spoke of the second gentleman’s strengths.
The video called Emhoff “kind, loving, and fiercely protective” and praised his work combating antisemitism.
