Donald Trump Threatens Iranian President Hassan Rouhani In A New Tweet

On Sunday, President Donald Trump threatened Iran in a tweet, warning Iranian President Hassan Rouhani of “consequences the likes of which few throughout history have ever suffered before.”

The tweet was apparently a reaction to a televised speech of Rouhani earlier on Sunday, in which he in turn warned that confrontation between the two would be the “mother of all wars,” CNN reported.

“Do not play with the lion’s tail or else you will regret it,” Rouhani said, reiterating that the U.S. cannot prevent it from exporting its crude oil to the international market. “Peace with Iran would be the mother of all peace and war with Iran would be the mother of all wars,” he said in the speech in Iran’s capital, Tehran.

Trump’s Iran threat comes after a week of harsh criticisms of his performance at the summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki. Before becoming President, Trump said repeatedly that he believed former President Barack Obama would initiate conflict with Iran to shift attention away from other weaknesses.

It seems to be a familiar tactic for Trump, as his threat to Iran shows similar behavior with his treatment of North Korea. Last year, he warned Kim Jung-un with “fire and fury like the world has never seen,” if there were any more threats against the U.S.
