Former President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to lash out against what he called a “political witch hunt,” hours after a Manhattan jury found him liable for sexually abusing and defaming author E. Jean Carroll.
Carroll was awarded $5 million in the Manhattan civil lawsuit. Trump said on Truth Social that he would appeal the decision.
“I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHO THIS WOMAN IS,” Trump wrote on the social media site in his standard all-caps tone. “THIS VERDICT IS A DISGRACE – A CONTINUATION OF THE GREATEST WITCH HUNT OF ALL TIME!”
In a series of videos, Trump repeatedly claimed he could not receive a fair trial in New York. He also called the judge “Clinton Appointed,” implying that former President Bill Clinton‘s appointee couldn’t give him a fair ruling.

“What else can you expect from a Trump Hating, Clinton-appointed judge, who went out of his way to make sure that the result was as negative as it could possibly be, speaking to, and in control of, a jury from an anti-Trump area which is probably the worst place in the U.S. for me to get a fair ‘trial,” he alleged.
The jury in the case against Trump did not find him accountable for rape. The jury did find sufficient evidence to say Trump sexually abused and then libelled the former magazine writer.
Dozens of women have come forward with sexual assault claims against Trump in the past decade. Carroll’s claim was supported by two other victims in court, including Jessica Leeds who testified against Trump.
“I filed this lawsuit against Donald Trump to clear my name and to get my life back,” Carroll said in a statement after the decision. “Today, the world finally knows the truth. This victory is not just for me but for every woman who has suffered because she was not believed.”
