Donald Trump Deletes Tweets Supporting Sen. Luther Strange After GOP Primary Loss

Donald Trump has been backing Alabama Senator Luther Strange in his state’s Senate GOP primary run, but deleted his tweets of support when Strange lost.

DONALD TRUMP DELETES TWEETS BACKING LUTHER STRANGE

Strange lost the race to former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore. The president tweeted about Strange multiple times leading up to the primary, and even on the day of the vote, but they had all been deleted by Tuesday night.

“Big election tomorrow in the Great State of Alabama. Vote for Senator Luther Strange, tough on crime & border – will never let you down!” reads one of the disappeared tweets. “Luther Strange has been shooting up in the Alabama polls since my endorsement. Finish the job – vote today for “Big Luther,” said another.

As of Tuesday night, these tweets were deleted, and a new one was written in support of the winner Moore. “Congratulations to Roy Moore on his Republican Primary win in Alabama. Luther Strange started way back & ran a good race. Roy, WIN in Dec!” Trump tweeted.

Trump actually wrote and deleted the first version of his congratulatory tweet because he wrote that the next vote would happen in November by accident. The president often deletes and revises his tweets due to spelling and grammar errors. Some believe this could be in violation of the Presidential Records Act of 1978, which requires that all of a president’s records be preserved for eventual release to the public after s/he leaves office,

Strange’s loss also marks the first time a Trump-backed candidate has lost a special election since Trump entered office.
