Donald Trump Calls FBI’s Search Of Mar-a-Lago ‘Shockingly Aggressive’

Former President Donald Trump condemned the FBI’s search of his Mar-a-Lago residence earlier this month as a “shockingly aggressive move” in a new filing.

The filing, which requests the appointment of a special master to oversee the Justice Department’s handling of the classified filings found at the Palm Beach, Florida, estate, accuses the search warrant used of being “overbroad,” as well as insinuating that politics played a part in the search.

The filing also argued that the seized documents could have fallen under executive privilege so it was unlawful for them to be taken.

“Law enforcement is a shield that protects Americans,” the motion said. “It cannot be used as a weapon for political purposes. “Therefore, we seek judicial assistance in the aftermath of an unprecedented and unnecessary raid on President Trump’s home.”

It continued on to call for a more descriptive list of what was taken, before adding that the government has not provided the information they asked for.

Judge Bruce Reinhart, who signed off on the search warrant, defended his decision on Monday, confirming that he found “probable cause that evidence of multiple federal crimes would be found.”

“Having carefully reviewed the Affidavit before signing the Warrant, I was — and am — satisfied that the facts sworn by the affiant are reliable,” he added in response to Trump’s claims.

The Justice Department also responded to Trump’s Monday court filing, noting that their official response would be made clear through the legal process.

The investigation into Trump’s potential mishandling of classified White House documents began in February after the National Archives located 15 boxes of secret documents at Mar-a-Lago, which signaled a breach of the Presidential Records Act.
