Donald Trump Attacks Brett Kavanaugh’s Second Accuser Deborah Ramirez: “She Was Drunk”

As allegations of sexual misconduct continue to emerge around Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, defenders of the Washington D.C., judge are scrambling to downplay the claims against him.

On Tuesday during a conference with Colombian President Iván Duque Márquez at the United Nations, President Donald Trump went on the attack against Deborah Ramirez, the second woman accusing Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct.

Ramirez, who was Kavanaugh’s classmate at Yale, alleges that Kavanaugh exposed himself himself to her during a party during their freshman year in the 1980s. Ramirez admitted to The New Yorker that she had been drinking prior to the incident taking place, acknowledging the gaps in her memory of the event.

Trump dismissed her accusations and cast doubt on her credibility due to the fact that she was drunk during the incident, saying she was “totally inebriated and all messed up.”

“The second accuser has nothing,” Trump told reporters. “The second accuser thinks maybe it could have been him, maybe not. She admits she was drunk. She admits time lapses.”

The president went on to accuse Democrats of playing a “con-game” in an attempt slander Kavanaugh, and ultimately reject his nomination.

Members of Congress like Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) have echoed the president’s remarks, implying that Democrats were engaging in “wholesale character assassination,” and calling their tactics “despicable.”

While responding to reporters, the president turned to President Márquez, and said, “You, as watching this, as the president of a great country, Colombia, you must say, ‘How is this possible?’”

For his part, Kavanaugh has denied these allegations as well as those made by Christine Blasey Ford. Ford, who is a psychological researcher in California, had previously accused Kavanaugh of pinning her down and attempting to remove her clothes during a party in high school.

Kavanaugh and Ford are scheduled to testify on Thursday before the Senate Judiciary Committee regarding her allegations.
