Department Of Justice Hands Over Mueller Evidence To House Judiciary Committee After Initially Resisting

The Democratic-controlled House of Representatives expects to receive the first batch of documents from the Department of Justice (DOJ) that were used as key pieces of evidence during the investigation of former Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

As part of a deal between House leaders such as Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-New York), Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, and the DOJ, the department will provide important underlying evidence from Mueller’s Russia probe. In exchange, the Judiciary Committee has agreed not to hold Attorney General William Barr in criminal contempt for failing to comply with House subpoenas. Instead, should Barr and former White House counsel Donald McGahn continue to avoid the subpoenas, then the House may continue their legal attacks in civil court. They are scheduled to vote on Tuesday whether or not to authorize lawsuits against the two officials.

Nadler said that he is willing to give the DOJ some time to collect all the required documents requested by the House, but if he suspects that the department is holding back then he “will have no choice but to enforce our subpoena in court and consider other remedies,” he stated.

This is just one battle in the ongoing war between Democrats and the Trump administration. Now that the liberals have control of the House, and all of the powers that such control grants, many representatives are eager to use those powers to investigate the president. However, President Donald Trump is eager to not let the House do their job and look into his actions, and he has instructed government officials to not comply with House requests in whatever manner that they can. For example, Barr and McGahn refused to comply with Democratic subpoenas under Trump’s orders. Furthermore, the DOJ has launched a counter-probe into the Russia probe conducted by Mueller, hoping to find some evidence to indicate that the entire investigation began as a way to smear Trump, thereby proving his constant, never-ending cries of ‘Witch Hunt!”
