Democrats Raise Nearly $50 Million Following Announcement Of Harris’ Presidential Candidacy

ActBlue announced that they received nearly $50 million in donations following an announcement from President Joe Biden (D) that he would not seek reelection and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris (D).

Biden announced in a statement on social media on Sunday that he was stepping down and not accepting his nomination as the Democratic candidate, then endorsed Harris quickly after.

In total, ActBlue, a Democratic fundraising platform, raised $47 million from small-dollar donors in the hours after Harris’ campaign began. They announced the spike in fundraising on X on Sunday night in the seven hours after Harris’ campaign began. In the first five hours of Harris’ campaign, the platform raised more than $27.5 million.

“UPDATE: As of 9pm ET, grassroots supporters have raised $46.7 million through ActBlue following Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign launch,” ActBlue wrote. “This has been the biggest fundraising day of the 2024 cycle. Small-dollar donors are fired up and ready to take on this election.”

The total represents money raised for all campaigns, not just Harris, but does mark the biggest day for online Democratic donations since the 2020 election when ActBlue raised $73.5 million following the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg in September 2020.

Numerous influential Democratic donors and politicians have also shown their support for Harris as she aims to win the Democratic nomination.

In a social media post on Sunday, Harris thanked Biden for his endorsement and said that she plans to “earn and win” the Democratic nomination.
