House Democrats are under fire for opening a federal investigation into a Iowa House race which ended with Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-Iowa), beating out Democrat Rita Hart by just six votes. The Iowa race has already been certified by the state.
The House Administration Committee opened the investigation, citing 22 ballots they believe were not counted properly. If the ballots turned in favor of Hart, they would overturn the results. Critics, however, call the federal action overzealous, saying the decision should be left up to the state.
Rep. Dean Phillips (D-Minnesota) tweeted Monday in opposition of his party’s motion, saying should indeed be left up to Iowa whether or not to investigate the extremely close race.

Rep. David Price (D-North Carolina) in a subsequent interview was asked if the investigation actually could overturn the election results. Price said, “I don’t think there’s the slightest chance that would happen.”
“I think I have confidence that all sides of that House Administration Committee process are well aware how sensitive and how difficult this is, and I look for them to have a conscientious process, and then I look to evaluate what they come up with,” Price told Fox News on Monday.
House Republicans, obviously, are extremely concerned about keeping Miller-Meeks in the House. Even those House Republicans who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump spoke out against the investigation, penning a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) asking Democrats to cease their investigation.
“Earlier this year, we the undersigned voted to impeach a President in our own party who had repeatedly refuted the results of a certified election, which led to horrific violence in the Capitol Building on January 6. That was not an easy vote for us politically, but it was the right thing to do,” the Republicans said in the letter to Pelosi. “To that end, we would ask that you immediately cease any and all efforts by the House Administration Committee to reverse the result of that election.”
