Democrats Fume At Biden White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre For Exposé Book Deal & Abandoning Party
Former White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre announced that she is leaving the Democratic Party. Jean-Pierre served as press secretary from May 2022 to January 2025 and worked as Joe Biden‘s primary senior advisor from late 2024 through President Donald Trump‘s inauguration.
This week, she shared the shocking news of a book deal.
“Jean-Pierre didn’t come to her decision to be an Independent lightly,” Hachette Book Group stated in a promotion for the book, aptly titled Independent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside the Party Lines. Many expect the tell-all book to target the Biden-Harris administration, but it will also encourage readers to reevaluate their political affiliations and form their own conclusions.
Her book was picked up for publication by Legacy Lit, a smaller imprint owned by Hachette that is dedicated to celebrating social justice and overlooked voices.

Hachette’s description explains that the book will highlight the importance of aligning oneself with personal beliefs rather than a party. “[Jean-Pierre] urges Americans to think outside of the blue-and-red box as we consider what’s next to save our democracy.”
The former press secretary’s announcement has been met with both surprise and dismay from Democrats.
A Democratic source called Jean-Pierre “incompetent” in a comment made to the New York Post. Other Democrats have voiced their confusion, with many expressing disappointment in her abandonment of the party.
This is not the first time Jean-Pierre has been faced with public criticism. In the past, she was scrutinized for reading directly from a binder during official press conferences and Q&As. In 2023, White House Communications Chief Anita Dunn called for her to leave her press secretary position, accusing her of being negligent and unprepared for briefings.
Jean-Pierre is the first black and openly LGBTQ person to fill the press secretary role. Her book is scheduled for release on October 21, 2025.
