Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy Launches PAC To Fight Trump Agenda Amid Reports Of ’28 Presidential Bid

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Connecticut) has launched a new political action committee (PAC), the American Mobilization Project, that aims to inspire grassroots opposition to President Donald Trump. Murphy’s latest move reflects his growing national profile and what many believe are his ambitions to run for president.

Unlike traditional PACs, Murphy’s group will focus on organizing rather than funding campaigns. In its initial rollout, the PAC vowed to invest $400,000 into advocacy and youth voter registration efforts, targeting groups in key battleground states. The PAC’s budget for the 2026 midterms is over $2 million.

Murphy has emerged as one of the Democratic Party’s most vocal critics of Trump after his reelection. He has leaned into public outreach, including frequent podcast appearances, town halls across the country and a strong social media presence, all signaling a broader effort to mobilize public resistance.

Still, Murphy denies that his moves are about positioning for a 2028 presidential run. “I don’t think it’s a foregone conclusion there’s going to be an election in 2026 or 2028 for anybody to run in if we don’t do the work right now,” he warned.

Early funding recipients include Georgia Youth Justice, Project 26 Pennsylvania and the Committee to Protect Health Care, which is organizing pro-Medicaid medical professionals in states including Michigan, Louisiana, and Utah.

Murphy joins a growing field of Democrats, including Govs. Wes Moore (D-Maryland) and Tim Walz (D-Minnesota) are laying the groundwork for the future of the party.
