The Democratic National Convention has been postponed until the week of Aug. 17 due to the growing coronavirus pandemic.
The convention was originally scheduled to take place the week of July 13 in Milwaukee, but was delayed due to the number of reported cases surging past 200,000 over the weekend. It will still take place in Milwaukee.
Joe Solmonese, the CEO of the Democratical National Convention Committee, confirmed the news in a statement on Thursday.
“In our current climate of uncertainty, we believe the smartest approach is to take additional time to monitor how this situation unfolds so we can best position our party for a safe and successful convention,” Solmonese said. “During this critical time, when the scope and scale of the pandemic and its impact remain unknown, we will continue to monitor the situation and follow the advice of health care professionals and emergency responders.”
