Democrats pitched a new bill that, if passed, could give Americans who make less than $120,000 a monthly stimulus check of $2000.
The bill, proposed by Sens. Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris and Ed Markey, would allow couples who file together to receive $4,000 and an additional $2000 per child up to three children.
The checks would continue until 90 days after the pandemic.
Harris said the bill was to show that previously passed relief bills were not “nearly enough to meet the needs of this historic crisis.”

Markey said the checks would be “the most direct and efficient mechanism for delivering economic relief to those most vulnerable.”
“Congress has a responsibility to make sure that every working-class household in America receives a $2,000 emergency payment a month for each family member,” Sanders added.
Once the Human Services Department declares the public health emergency is over, the checks would stop going out three months after that.
The announcement of the bill came as the U.S. reached 14.7 percent. This is the highest the unemployment rate has been since the Great Depression. However, President Donald Trump said those numbers were “totally expected.”
