At a recent news conference, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki defended President Joe Biden‘s faith when asked about the latest rebuke from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.
Last Friday, the Catholic Bishops finalized a “teaching document” that would deny communion to Biden along with other Catholic politicians, for supporting political ideas that go against Church doctrine. Some of those policies include supporting abortion and gay marriage.
Biden’s campaign in 2020 supported abortion and gay rights against former President Donald Trump, whose campaign had broad evangelical Christian support.

“Joe Biden is a strong man of faith,” Psaki told reporters. “And as he noted just a couple of days ago, it’s personal. He goes to church, as you know, nearly every weekend. He even went when we were on our overseas trip.” When in the U.K. last week, Biden attended the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in St. Ives in England.
She added: “It’s personal to him. He doesn’t see it through a political prism.”
Psaki refused to comment on anything else regarding Biden’s views of the Catholic Church.
Biden is the second Catholic president. He often cites Scripture in his speeches, and he carries rosary beads in his pockets. Faith has also helped him with grief over the years after losing his daughter and wife in a 1972 car accident and his son Beau from cancer in 2015.
