Trump Promises Year-Long Birthday Party For America’s 250th, If Re-Elected

Former President Donald Trump promises to throw the country the best birthday party “of all time” if re-elected in 2024.

“[In 2026] our country will celebrate the biggest and most important milestone in our country’s history: 250 years of American independence,” Trump began his policy video regarding his proposed semiquincentennial celebration. “That’s why as a nation we should be preparing for a most spectacular birthday party.”

The celebration, called “Salute to America 250,” is supposed to last for over a year, starting on Memorial Day 2025 and ending on July 4, 2026. In his video, Trump pledged the creation of a task force on the first day of his presidency to work with state and local governments in planning “Salute to America 250.”

The centerpiece of his proposed celebration is the “Great American State Fair” — what Trump calls a “unique one-year exhibition featuring pavilions from all 50 states” that will “showcase the glory of every state in the Union, promote pride in our history and put forth innovative visions for America’s future.”

Trump even suggested that the “Great American State Fair” could be held on the Iowa state fairgrounds, a notable comment given the significance of the upcoming 2024 Iowa Republican presidential caucuses.

“My hope is that the amazing people of Iowa will work with my administration to open up the legendary Iowa state fairgrounds… and welcome millions and millions of visitors from around the world to the heartland of America for this special one-time festival,” Trump said.

While the former president didn’t give concrete plans for what the rest of the more-than-a-year-long celebration is going to look like, he did also propose a national tournament for high school athletes called the “Patriot Games” and the revival of his “National Garden of American Heroes” executive order —an order for the construction of a garden with statues of important American figures nixed by President Joe Biden in early 2021.

“As president, I will invite the leaders and citizens of nations around the world to visit the United States in honor of our 250th anniversary,” Trump said during his concluding statements about his proposed celebration. “It’s going to be great.”
