Rodney Scott, the chief of the Border Patrol, said on Wednesday that he is resigning from his job. He was appointed to the position by former President Donald Trump in January 2020.
Scott was a strong supporter Trump’s border wall plan. President Joe Biden, on the other hand, has canceled the $16 billion wall construction and overturned many of his predecessor’s top policies. Instead, Biden says he is focused on reuniting migrant families separated under the Trump Administration.
The Biden administration sent Scott a “3R” letter, which gave him the option to retire, resign or relocate to another position.

In his resignation letter, Scott said that he did not see a reason for his ousting, but stated that it might just be so that “the new administration can place the person they want in the position.”
Scott’s resignation will be effective in 60 days.
Biden has come under criticism for the increased flow of migrants coming to the southern border. In March, the number of migrants crossing the border reached a two-decade high – with 173,000 migrants crossed the border then. Data from this past May show a continuation of the trend. The number of migrants that have crossed the border last month is up from 23,237 compared to May 2020.
