Cynthia Nixon Considering Bid For New York Governor Against Andrew Cuomo

Sex and the City actress Cynthia Nixon may run against New York Governor Andrew Cuomo during the Democratic primary in September, according to NY1.

NY1 reported that Nixon may hire Rebecca Katz and Bill Heyers, both of whom worked on New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio’s first campaign.

Nixon’s publicist told CNN that the actress has not made a final decision about whether she will run.

“Many concerned New Yorkers have been encouraging Cynthia to run for office, and as she has said previously, she will continue to explore it,” Rebecca Capellan, Nixon’s publicist, told CNN. “If and when such a decision is made, Cynthia will be sure to make her plans public.”

Nixon is known for being politically active, and she marched in the 2018 Women’s March in New York City.

She also often speaks about Democratic causes.

“Less than 1/3 of our country wants this apocalyptic tax bill passed,” Nixon tweeted in December. “Why is the GOP so determined? Follow the money, folks.”

Most recently, she wrote an op-ed for CNN about President Donald Trump. In it, she proposed that American citizens give their own State of the Union about what they think is necessary to fix and accomplish in the country.

“President Trump’s first year in office has been a dark year for many in America,” Nixon wrote. “For those of us who value equal rights for all, or economic and racial justice, or want to combat climate change, we’ve taken huge steps backwards.”

She went on to discuss the issue of mass deportation, disinvestment in public schooling and healthcare, and she encouraged citizens to vote and actively advocate and protest for their rights.

I know that all sounds bleak — and I haven’t even touched on the moral and legal calamities, and embarrassments on the world stage that we’ve seen over the last year. But there’s also good news: America is still a democracy and the people can hold their leaders accountable,” Nixon wrote. “That’s why it’s time to take our government back.”
