Cruz Says Cancún Vacation Was ‘Obviously A Mistake’ Amid Calls For Resignation

On Thursday, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) spoke to reporters about his sudden trip to Cancún while his state is still suffering from historic blackouts and blizzards. Cruz admitted that his choice to leave Texas was “obviously a mistake.”

In the background of Cruz’s maskless interview, a crowd shouts “resign!” repeatedly. Protestors also gathered outside the Senator’s home Thursday with large signs spelling “RESIGN.”

“The Texas Democratic Party calls on Ted Cruz to resign or be expelled from office,” said Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa in a statement on behalf of the Texas Democratic Party. “Barring that, we will put all of the resources we have into defeating him and every Texas Republican who abandoned us in this disaster, including Governor Abbott and Lieutenant Governor Patrick, in 2022 and 2024. We are in a battle for the soul of our state. We must restore ethics, competence, and a government that works for the people.”
