After posting inflammatory Facebook messages in support of Capitol rioters on January 6, Ginni Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, wrote a formal apology to former Supreme Court clerks.
“I owe you all an apology. I have likely imposed on you my lifetime passions,” Thomas wrote in her email to former clerks and their families. “My passions and beliefs are likely shared with the bulk of you, but certainly not all. And sometimes the smallest matters can divide loved ones for too long. Let’s pledge to not let politics divide THIS family, and learn to speak more gently and knowingly across the divide.”
A clerk who received the email from Thomas told CNN that the list was generally used to discuss personal events or job changes.
“I would ask those of you on the contrary side to have grace and mercy on those on my side of the polarized world, and feel free to call and talk to me individually about where I failed you as a friend here,” Thomas said. “I probably need more tutoring … Otherwise, on behalf of both of us, be assured of our love for each of you.”

In the days after Thomas’ Facebook comments, several former clerks for Justice Thomas, who were close with Ginni Thomas, were deeply disturbed by the messages.
Ginni Thomas’s original Facebook posts said “GOD BLESS EACH OF YOU STANDING UP or PRAYING,” and “LOVE MAGA people!!!!’” Soon after violence broke out in the Capitol building, Thomas posted again saying she was unaware of the violence when she originally posted.
Thomas’ Facebook page is currently inaccessible.
