Chris Wallace of Fox News
Fox News host Chris Wallace fact-checked President Donald Trump‘s claims that former Vice President Joe Biden supports abolishing the police, a demand that has gained some traction in the wake of several police killings of unarmed black people.
In the interview, Trump told Wallace, “It’s gotten totally out of control and it’s really because they want to defund the police, and Biden wants to defund the police.”
“Sir, he does not,” Wallace replied.

Trump then asserted Biden had “signed a charter” with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont), referencing recent efforts to unite the Democratic party by outlining joint policy recommendations that would appease both Biden and Sanders supporters.
“It says nothing about defunding the police,” Wallace said of the 110-page document the joint teams had created. Trump still pressed the notion Biden had stated his support of abolishing the police saying, “Oh really? It says abolish, it says. Let’s go, get me the charter, please.”
Trump went through the charter and found a lot of things that he objected to that Biden has agreed to, but couldn’t find any indication that Joe Biden has sought to defund and abolish the police.
Trump was also fact-checked after he claimed we have one of the lowest coronavirus mortality rates, to which Wallace said, “Sir, that’s not true,” noting that it’s the seventh-highest internationally.
“Can you please get me the mortality rate?” Trump said to someone off-screen. After looking at a document, Trump still said “number one low mortality rate” and called Wallace “fake news.”
According to John Hopkins University & Medicine, the U.S. has tenth highest case-to-fatality ratio as of Monday, behind the United Kingdom, Mexico, Iran and others – but far from the “best” mortality rate.
