Chris Christie Expected To Announce Presidential Campaign Next Tuesday

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) is expected to officially announce his presidential bid next Tuesday. The announcement will likely take place at 6:30 p.m. EST in a town hall at Saint Anselm College.

The anticipated campaign announcement comes after allies of the former governor formed a super PAC earlier this week to support him during the Republican primary. The super PAC, called Tell It Like It Is, is run by Brian Jones — an aide who advised former Sen. John McCain’s (R-Arizona) 2008 campaign and Sen. Mitt Romney’s (R-Utah) 2012 campaign.

“[Christie] is willing to confront the hard truths that currently threaten the future of the Republican Party,” Jones said. “Now more than ever we need leaders that have the courage to say…what we need to hear.”

Christie’s candidacy faces numerous challenges as the Republican primary approaches. Christie dropped out after coming in sixth in the New Hampshire presidential primary during his first run in 2016, and current polling positions former President Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as frontrunners in the 2024 race.

Christie also needs to explain to voters his shift from a former close Trump ally to an outspoken Trump critic. Despite endorsing Trump in 2016 and serving as Trump’s informal adviser during his presidency, Christie now describes Trump as a “loser.”

According to his team, Christie is willing to take on those challenges by running a non-traditional campaign that is focused on restoring hope to America’s “exhausted majority,” being authentic and “engaging Trump.”
