Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) blasted Donald Trump for endorsing Herschel Walker for U.S. Senate. Christie said he believes Trump has saddled the Republican party with “bad candidates.”
“Bad candidates lose. Good candidates have a chance to win. Herschel Walker was not a good candidate,” Christie told ABC News.
Trump endorsed Walker and campaigned alongside the Republican candidate before the December runoff. A laundry list of personal scandals marred Walker’s candidacy.
“Herschel Walker is his creation,” Christie said of Trump.

“We all remember in 2016, he said, if he got elected, there was going to be so much winning and winning and winning and winning, they’d get sick of winning. None of us knew at the time he was actually talking about the Democrats,” he said.
Christie pointed out that Brian Kemp, the Republican running for re-election in Georgia, received 200,000 more votes than Walker on election night. He said the contrast between Kemp’s success and Walker’s failure shows that Walker was just a lousy candidate.
Walker and newly reelected Sen. Raphael Warnock (D–Georgia) competed in a runoff election in December. According to Georgia state law, if candidates don’t secure 50% of the vote, a runoff election is called between the top-two vote-getters.
Warnock is the first Black man to win a full Senate term in Georgia.
