Chief Justice John Roberts was hospitalized overnight last month after falling on his forehead while walking for exercise outside of his home. After having fallen, the ambulance rushed him to the hospital where his head wound closed up.
Court spokesperson Kathleen Arberg said in a statement, “The chief justice was treated at a local hospital on June 21 for an injury to his forehead sustained in a fall while walking for exercise near his home. The injury required sutures, and out of an abundance of caution, he stayed in the hospital overnight and was discharged the next morning. His doctors ruled out a seizure. They believe the fall was likely due to light-headedness caused by dehydration.”
As one of nine justices, which also includes four more conservative and four liberal judges, Roberts serves as a key swing vote among all other justices.
Most recently, Roberts has sided with three major liberal cases including having granted workplace protections to gay, lesbian and transgender employees, blocked the Trump administration from ending the DACA program for young, undocumented immigrants and striking down a Louisiana law imposing restrictions on abortion clinics.
