With Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Nevada having certified President-elect Joe Biden’s victory in their respective states, President Donald Trump has turned to Wisconsin in his latest attempt to overturn the election. But his efforts seemed to backfire after officials in the state’s most populous county announced Friday that the recount not only upheld Biden’s win, but it actually added votes to his lead. Out of the 460,000 ballots that were cast in Milwaukee County, Biden earned a net gain of 132 votes. Although an inconsequential number considering Biden won Wisconsin by roughly 20,000 votes, this reinforces the seemingly futile nature of Trump’s attempt to earn a second term in the White House.
In order to proceed with the recounts in both Milwaukee and Dane counties, the Trump campaign paid the Wisconsin Elections Commission $3 million. The two counties, which together make up approximately a quarter of the state’s overall population, swung in favor of Biden with 69% and 75% of the vote, respectively.
In just over two weeks, electors will meet in their respective states to cast their ballots for president and vice president. Arizona, a key battleground state, is set to certify its results on Monday, and Wisconsin will follow suit the next day. The clock is certainly running out for President Trump, but he has yet to back down and continues to declare that the election was rigged without providing any evidence.
