Biden Says Gov. Cuomo Should Step Down If Investigation Finds Wrongdoing

President Joe Biden told reporters in front on Marine One on Tuesday afternoon that New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) should step down if state investigations determine he is guilty of sexual harassment as alleged by three woman against the governor.

“Takes a lot of courage to come forward,” Biden said. “So, the presumption is they should be taken seriously. And it should be investigated. And that’s what’s underway now.”

ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos later asked Biden in an interview if Cuomo should step down if his harassment is confirmed and Biden said, “Yes.”

“I think he’ll probably end up being prosecuted, too,” Biden added.

“What the President said is that there’s a process. These charges are very serious charges. They ought to be investigated and that process ought to run its course,” said White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain. The chief of staff then made clear that the allegations “have a right to be heard.”

A growing number of New York lawmakers have asked the governor to step down. Most recently, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) called the sexual harassment allegations against Cuomo “disgusting,” in a statement and that “he can no longer serve as governor. It’s as simple as that.”
