After expanding his initial goal of administering 100 million doses in his first 100 days in office, President Joe Biden announced Wednesday that his new goal of 200 million doses in 100 days has been surpassed.
“This is an American achievement — a powerful demonstration of unity and resolve, what unity will do for us, and a reminder of what we can accomplish when we pull together as one people to a common goal,” Biden said at a White House event honoring the achievement.
Wednesday was Biden’s 92nd day in office. Biden announced that as of Sunday, more than half of all American adults have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and that more than 80% of adults 65 and older are partially or fully vaccinated.
Alongside the announcement, Biden also unveiled a new tax credit system allowing small businesses with less than 500 employees to give paid time off to workers for getting vaccinated. Participating businesses can receive a credit of up to $511 per day of sick leave for when employees are vaccinated or are recovering from side effects. The system will be in place until September 30.
