President Joe Biden is considering bringing back the practice of detaining migrant families who cross the border illegally.
Biden shut down the practice of family detention in 2021 due to pressure from Democrats and after campaigning against Trump’s use of the policy.
The Biden Administration is also struggling with the ending of Title 42 on May 11, a Trump-era program that lets authorities quickly deport migrants crossing the border, which causes officials to fear an influx of illegal immigrants at the border after that date.
No final policy decisions have been made on how border policing will change. Senior White House and Department of Homeland Security officials have had many meetings to flesh out these policies.

Biden recently toughened his border measures after relentless criticism from Republicans. A new policy will require nationals from four countries to seek asylum at home rather than at the U.S. border. Those arriving from those nations will be immediately deported rather than given a hearing.
