Biden Campaign Memo Reports More Optimistic Polling Than Many Media Polls

Leaders in the Biden campaign sent out an all-staff memo to alleviate concerns regarding President Joe Biden’s candidacy following the presidential debate.

The memo, signed by campaign chair Jen O’Malley and campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez, shared results of internal polling that showed the race was still close between Biden and political opponent former President Donald Trump.

Their data showed that Biden lost half a percentage point following his poor debate performance, and Trump improved his voter percentage by 0.2 points. The poll also revealed that both candidates had 43 percentage points prior to the debate, and Biden now had 42 percentage points. The poll focused on key battleground states and how they performed before and after the presidential debate.

Rumors have circulated that the Biden campaign sent this memo in an attempt to share data before an anticipated poll from the New York Times, which showed larger margins between the candidates.

CBS News also showed a larger margin in the election, reporting that Trump had gained a three-point advantage in battleground states and a two-point advantage nationally.

The memo further addressed these polls and acknowledged that they expect results to fluctuate.

“We are going to see a few polls come out today and we want you all to hear from us on what we know internally and what we expect to come externally,” the memo said. “Polls are a snapshot in time and we should all expect them to continue to fluctuate — it will take a few weeks, not a few days, to get a full picture of the race.”
