Biden Campaign Co-Chair Says Vice President Harris Is Getting More Involved

Cedric Richmond, co-chair of President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign, said that Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to increase her involvement in Biden’s reelection attempt.

The former Louisiana representative spoke with MSNBC’s Jonathan Capehart about Biden’s campaign and Harris’ involvement.

“She is increasing her role and she’s been a valued partner since day one,” said Richmond. “I won’t get into whether she’s been covered fairly by the press, but she is a valuable partner. She’s incredibly intelligent. And I will just say she has not only publicly stated her support for President Biden, but she’s privately said that too.”

This statement follows increased efforts from the Biden campaign to prove that the president is able to serve another term following his concerning debate performance last month, as well as many Democrats calling for Harris to take the candidacy instead. Harris has continued to show her support for the president and aid in his reelection efforts.

She posted on X, following the presidential debate, to show her support for Biden’s candidacy and leadership.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) have also shown their support for Biden’s campaign, as many Democrats have also called for each of them to replace the president as the Democratic nominee. Richmond spoke about Newsom and Whitmer’s support of Biden during his interview.

“I was with Gavin Newsom after the debate when he did the same, and Gretchen Whitmer was on the chairs call yesterday, and she reiterated her support,” Richmond said.

He continued by stating, “Leaders are rallying around this president and vice president because they understand what’s at stake and they understand what they have accomplished.”

Biden has stated that only “the Lord almighty” could prevent his reelection bid despite the criticism he is facing from his party.
