Biden Calls Trump A ‘Convicted Felon’ Who ‘Snapped’ During a Connecticut Fundraiser

On Monday, during a fundraising event in Greenwich, Connecticut, President Joe Biden, responding to Democratic calls to address former President Donald Trump‘s recent criminal conviction in New York, referred to Trump as a “convicted felon.”

While the Biden campaign has refrained from directly addressing Trump’s trial proceedings leading up to Trump’s conviction, it has been considering adopting a more assertive stance on his legal issues.

This move came under mounting pressure, particularly following Thursday’s verdict in Trump’s hush money trial, where he was found guilty of 34 felony counts related to falsifying business records.

During Monday night’s Greenwich reception, Biden told a group of supporters, including Connecticut Gov. Ned Lemont and its two sitting U.S. senators, that the campaign had entered “unchartered territory” when a jury found Trump guilty.

“For the first time in American history, a former president that is a convicted felon is now seeking the office of the presidency,” Biden said at the event.

“But as disturbing as that is,” he added, “more damaging is the all-out assault Donald Trump is making on the American system of justice.”

After Thursday’s verdict, Biden spoke at the White House, addressing Trump’s conviction and his consistent criticisms of the justice system.

“It’s reckless, it’s dangerous, it’s irresponsible for anyone to say this was rigged just because they don’t like the verdict,” Biden told White House reporters.

During the event on Monday, Biden echoed his Thursday remarks, saying, “Something has snapped in this guy for real” after the 2020 election, adding, “It’s literally driving him crazy,” labeling him as “unhinged.”

During and after his hush money trial, Trump persistently criticized the legal proceedings, denouncing his trial as a “scam” and asserting that he was targeted in a “witch hunt” orchestrated by Biden and his campaign.

Shortly after his conviction, his campaign team created a fundraising page, declaring he was a “political prisoner” and announcing their plans to appeal the decision.

“I was just convicted in a rigged political Witch Hunt Trial: I did nothing wrong! They’ve raided my home, arrested me, took my mugshot, and now they’ve just convicted me!” the page read.

In response to Biden’s comments on Monday, a spokesman for the Trump campaign rebuked Biden, alleging that he was merely trying to deflect attention from the commencement of the federal gun charge trial involving his son, Hunter Biden, that same day.
