Biden Beats Trump – For Highest Number Of Federal Judges Confirmed With 235

This week, President Joe Biden marked the confirmation of his 235th life-tenured judicial nominee. This is the largest number of confirmations in a single term since President Jimmy Carter’s administration.

During Biden’s four years in office, he has appointed over a quarter of all active judges, fulfilling his pledge to make federal judge confirmations one of his top priorities.

Of the 235 confirmations, one will go to the United States Supreme Court, 45 to the nation’s appeals courts, 187 to the nation’s district courts and two to the United States Court of International Trade.

Biden has also worked with senators to fill circuit and district-level vacancies, even with the longest 50-50 Senate in history.

Biden has fulfilled his important campaign promise to have highly qualified judges from underrepresented professional backgrounds. He appointed the first former public defender to the United States Supreme Court, appointed over 45 public defenders and over 25 civil rights lawyers.

The president has also set records for the demographic diversity of his appointees, with the first black woman ever to serve on the United States Supreme Court and the most black women appointed to circuit courts than any other administration. He also appointed a record number of women, black, Latino, AANHPI, Native American, Muslim-American and LGBTQ judges.
