Biden Announces U.S. Passes 100 Million COVID Shots Ahead Of Schedule

President Joe Biden set an at the time lofty goal of administering 100 million COVID-19 vaccine doses in his first 100 days in office. Current estimates say Biden will meet his goal as soon as Friday.

“Tomorrow, we will hit 100 million doses that our administration has administered,” Biden said on Thursday. “But as I have always said, that’s just the floor. We will not stop until we beat this pandemic,” then announcing plans to set new vaccine goals.

When the 100 millionth shot is administered, Biden will have been in office for less than 60 days. Health officials and the president, however, agree that 100 million doses is not the finish line. Dr. Anthony Fauci said in an interview on Thursday that America’s rate of daily infections is still “much too high to be declaring victory,” and warned that if restrictions are lifted too early, rates could jump again.

To date, the federal government has ordered about 800 doses of the COVID-19 vaccines split between manufacturers Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson. Biden also announced weeks before that vaccine supply in the United States would be sufficient to immunize every adult by the middle of May.
