Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) said he has what it takes to beat President Donald Trump in Texas at the second Democrat debate in Detroit on Tuesday night.
Texas has not gone blue since 1976 when it voted for President Jimmy Carter. Since then, it has been a top objective of the Democrats to flip the state. O’Rourke, who served as a Texas U.S. House representative, thinks he’s the one to get its 38 electoral college votes for the Democrats. Out of the five most-populated states, Texas is only one that has continuously voted for Republicans. A victory there almost certainly put a Democrat in the White House.

A recent poll showed O’Rourke beating Trump by 11% in Texas. The poll also showed that Texans had him as their top Democratic pick – not national frontrunner and former Vice President Joe Biden.
