President Donald Trump‘s trip to India has forced the meat-lover to follow a vegetarian diet Monday and Tuesday, as he visits Gujarat state, Agra and Delhi, where Hindu is the main religion and cows are viewed as sacred.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi created an elaborate itinerary for Trump, including holding a massive rally in the world’s largest cricket stadium and touring the Taj Mahal. However, Modi is a devout vegetarian and is not expected to offer meat alternatives to the president, as other world leaders have in the past.
CNN reported that other countries that do not serve steak have tried to accommodate him by providing lamb or a different kind of steak.
“I don’t know what he’s going to do in this case. They don’t serve cheeseburgers,” a former official told CNN.

While his aides would work hard to fulfill Trump’s requests for steak, looking for beef in India is no easy task. Even the local McDonald’s do not serve hamburgers, with their menus consisting of chicken burgers and fried cheese paneer sandwiches.
The switch in cuisine for Trump would provide him with some important health benefits.
“We see that people who follow a vegetarian diet tend to have lower rates of cardiovascular disease, lower risk for diabetes, for renal disease,” registered dietician Kary Woodruff said in an interview with the University of Utah’s The Scope.
She added, “They tend to have a healthier BMI and lower risk for obesity. And just their overall intake of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and other nutrient dense foods tends to be higher.”
