Attorney General WIlliam Barr Resigns After Falling Out With Trump

President Donald Trump announced on Monday that Attorney General William Barr would depart next week.

Trump tweeted late Monday afternoon that Barr “will be leaving just before Christmas to spend the holidays with his family,” after serving as attorney general since 2019. Barr’s departure date is Dec. 23.


Trump also said that Deputy Attorney General Jeff Rosen will become acting attorney general, while Richard Donoghue will become Deputy Attorney General.


In his resignation letter, Barr said he was greatly honored to have served in the Trump administration. He also praised the president’s accomplishments since taking office.

“I am proud to have played a role in the many successes and unprecedented achievements you have delivered for the American people,” Barr wrote.

Barr was sworn in as attorney general in February 2019. He replaced then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions who resigned after also falling out with Trump.
