As He Exits Administration, Elon Musk Criticizes Trump Budget Bill For Exploding Deficit
Elon Musk took to social media to criticize the Republican budget bill that recently passed in the House of Representatives.
Musk announced this week that he is exiting the Trump Administration to focus on his businesses, which have suffered in his absence.
Musk, CEO of Tesla, reposted his company’s statement on the social platform X, which criticized President Donald Trump‘s signature bill due to concerns about “abruptly ending the energy tax credits.”
As the bill heads to the Senate, the post urged senators to enact a more “sensible wind down” of credits for energy-efficient companies and homeowners.

In a separate post on the platform X, Musk added the bill made “no change to tax incentives for oil & gas, just EV/solar.”
Trump’s proposed “Big, Beautiful Bill” narrowly passed in the House, with the topic of energy tax credits being a divided topic among Republican representatives.
Many Republicans have urged a more steady discontinuation of the energy tax credits implemented by Democrats in 2022. The hope was to avoid obstructing ongoing energy projects, yet the House-approved bill’s significant reduction in credits threatens the operations of those in the industry.
To receive energy tax credits for projects, the bill stipulates that construction must commence within 60 days of the bill’s passage and the project must be generating electricity by 2028.
This is not the first time Musk has been critical of Trump’s policy bill.
In a recent interview with CBS News, Musk expressed how the bill undermined the work of his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
“I was disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit, not just decreases it, and undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing,” said Musk.
Despite the disagreements, White House officials conveyed that Musk and Trump still maintain a mutual respect for one another.
As Musk’s special government status nears its end and his focus shifts back to his businesses, his influence in Washington is expected to remain strong.
