WASHINGTON, DC - APRIL 03: Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) speaks during a news conference to announce the "Green Real Deal" on April 3, 2019 in Washington, DC. The "Green Real Deal" is a resolution intended to serve as a response to the "Green New Deal" promoted by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA). During an event at Trump’s Doral Resort Club on Friday, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Florida) hit back at the media and defended himself against recent allegations of sex-trafficking made against him, even stopping to describe himself as a “champion of women.”
In a 15-minutes speech, Gaetz spoke directly about the charges against him. He denied all the charges, including the New York Times report that the FBI is investigating him for engaging in a sexual affair with a 17-year-old girl.
Speaking to a crowd full of supporters on a sunny red-state afternoon, Gaetz, instead, proclaimed that he had championed several women’s careers.
“It’s just how I was raised,” Gaetz said. “I have seen the potential unlocked with so many brilliant, patriotic women that I have had the chance to work with,” the representative said.

The House Ethics Committee announced on Friday afternoon a probe into the sex trafficking allegations.
“The Committee is aware of public allegations that Representative Matt Gaetz may have engaged in sexual misconduct and illicit drug use, shared inappropriate images or videos on the House floor, misused state identification records, converted campaign funds to personal use, and accepted a bribe, improper gratuity, or impermissible gift, in violation of House Rules, laws, or other standards of conduct,” the committee wrote in a release on Friday afternoon. “The Committee has begun an investigation and will gather additional information regarding the allegations.”
