WASHINGTON, DC - FEBRUARY 13: House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) (R) listens to House Republican Conference Chair Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) during a news conference following a caucus meeting at the U.S. Capitol Visitors Center February 13, 2019 in Washington, DC. McCarthy said that he supports the framework of a bipartisan spending deal that would avert another partial federal government shutdown but is waiting to read the bill before deciding on whether he would vote for it. Multiple top allies associated with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-California) have vowed to oust Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyoming) as further punishment for her outspokenness against former President Donald Trump and his false claims of election fraud.
“There is no way that Liz will be conference chair by month’s end. When there is a vote, it won’t be a long conference; it will be fast. Everyone knows the outcome,” one McCarthy confidant told The Hill.
Cheney has been critical of former Trump, becoming even more vocal after the 2020 president election where Trump falsely claimed that the presidency was stolen from him. “The 2020 presidential election was not stolen,” Cheney tweeted this Monday. “Anyone who claims it was is spreading THE BIG LIE, turning their back on the rule of law, and poisoning our democratic system.”
Cheney was compelled to reaffirm her statement after Trump recently raised the debunked election conspiracy in a statement to supporters. “The Fraudulent Presidential Election of 2020 will be, from this day forth, known as THE BIG LIE!” Trump wrote.

Trump specifically has take on Cheney in the past, saying, “Heartwarming to read new polls on big-shot warmonger Liz Cheney of the great State of Wyoming. She is so low that her only chance would be if vast numbers of people run against her which, hopefully, won’t happen. They never liked her much, but I say she’ll never run in a Wyoming election again!”
