Allen West, a candidate for the Texas Republican gubernatorial nomination, was hospitalized with COVID-19 on Sunday.
“No complaints. I’m just relaxing,” West said during the interview.
Just a day before he was admitted to the hospital, West revealed that he had coronavirus-related pneumonia and that he was likely to be hospitalized.
“There’s a concern about my oxygen saturation levels, which are at 89 and they should be at 95,” West tweeted Saturday.

West, who is unvaccinated, has been one of the most outspoken Republicans against COVID-related restrictions and mandates.
Last year, West joined a protest outside Texas Gov. Greg Abbott‘s home, denouncing his executive orders like mask mandates and lockdowns.
And despite his diagnosis, West insisted that his hospitalization has only made him “more dedicated to fighting against vaccine mandates.”
“I can attest that, after this experience, I am even more dedicated to fighting against vaccine mandates. Instead of enriching the pockets of Big Pharma and corrupt bureaucrats and politicians, we should be advocating the monoclonal antibody infusion therapy,” Allen tweeted Sunday.
Angela West, the candidate’s wife, was also diagnosed with COVID-19. Angela, however, was soon released from the hospital. Unlike her husband, she is fully vaccinated.
