The Alaskan Republican Party formally censured Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) Saturday and vowed to pit her against a strong opponent in the state’s upcoming GOP primary. The party censured Murkowski because of her vote to convict former President Donald Trump on charges of inciting insurrection.
“There’s a number of issues that the party has had with Sen. Murkowski for the last several years which really culminated in the conviction vote of former President Trump,” head of Anchorage’s Republican Party Kris Warren said in a statement.
Murkowski has broken form with her party on several high profile votes including voting to confirm Rep. Deb Haaland (D-New Mexico) as Interior Secretary and disagreeing with a Republican-lad attempt to ban trans women from sports.
“She’s repeatedly spoken out against President Trump over the years in spite of all the great accomplishments he had that helped the country and certainly helped Alaska,” Warren continued.

Murkowski is profoundly popular in her state.
