After Trump Touts ‘Great Call’ With Putin, Russia Launches 100-Drone Attack In Ukraine

Following a phone call on Monday between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Russia launched over 100 drones into Ukraine.

The call between Trump and Putin lasted around two hours. Trump, who termed it a “great call,” phoned in from the Oval Office, and Putin called from a visit to a Sochi music school. The call was Trump’s latest attempt to facilitate a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.

After the call, Trump stated that the two sides would immediately begin to discuss a ceasefire.

However, overnight, Russia launched its drones into Ukraine.

The Ukrainian air force reported that they managed to destroy and disable 93 of the drones, while the Russian Defense Ministry reported that they destroyed eight Ukrainian drones.

The drone attacks are the most recent of thousands in the three-year war.

Prior to this most recent attack, Russia launched over 270 exploding drones into Ukraine the day before the call between Trump and Putin. The attack was a few hours after Trump had reported that he would discuss with both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy about a ceasefire.

There have been no successful ceasefire talks between the two sides during the three-year war. While there have been temporary truces between the two countries, no permanent solution to the war has ever been found.

Both sides sent negotiators to discuss a ceasefire in Turkey the previous week. However, no conclusion was reached.

Trump has already threatened to impose new sanctions on Russia, but Putin and the Kremlin do not seem to be deterred from their goal of annexing Ukraine, nor have they held back on attacks on the country.

Russia has demanded certain requirements to be met before ending the war. Their conditions include blocking Ukraine permanently from joining NATO, demilitarizing Kyiv, annexing four regions in Ukraine, twhich they’ve already managed to control, partially and retaining control of Crimea.
