After Elon Musk Calls GOP Budget Bill A ‘Disgusting Abomination,’ House Speaker Mike Johnson Says Comments Are ‘Disappointing’

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and former head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), posted harsh remarks on his social media platform X directed toward the GOP’s “One Big Beautiful Bill.”

Musk was an integral figure in President Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign. He followed Trump on the campaign trail and provided $200 million in donations. Following Trump’s reelection, Musk was seen in the Oval Office during multiple press conferences and accompanied the president on numerous occasions.

Recently, Musk has stepped down as the head of DOGE to focus on Tesla and SpaceX.

On Tuesday, Musk stated on X that the new GOP bill is a “disgusting abomination” and addressed supporters of the bill in the House, stating that “they knew their vote wasn’t right.” Musk also addressed the financial shortcomings of the bill, saying that it would bankrupt the country.

Musk said he might support attempts to oust congressmen who supported the bill during the midterm election in 2026.

Musk has had a history of attacking legislation that does not favor himself or his companies. Tesla would suffer from the bill’s provisions to end subsidies and tax credits for electric cars.

House Speaker Mike Johnson stated that Musk’s critiques are “disappointing.”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that Trump has been aware of Musk’s opinions on the bill and continues to support it.
