In a new advertisement urging Americans to get the COVID-19 vaccine when available, all living former presidents speak candidly about the importance of vaccination. The ad, however, does not feature former President Donald Trump.
Former Presidents Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama appear alongside their spouses former First Ladies Rosalynn Carter, Hillary Clinton, Laura Bush and Michelle Obama to talk about what they look forward to doing after COVID-19 is no longer a threat. The ad also shows all eight public figures getting vaccinated.
Clinton said he is looking forward to getting “back to work” and being “able to move around.” Obama said he hopes to see Michelle Obama’s mother again and, “hug her and see her on her birthday.” Keeping with the wholesome theme, former President Bush says he wants to go “to opening day at Texas Rangers Stadium with a full stadium.”

The videos, produced by the Ad Council, began filming the former President in December while Trump was still in office, Ad Council Vice President Ben Dorf told The Washington Post. Because Trump was not yet a former President, the Ad Council did not include him in the videos. Being that Trump has been out of office for almost two months, many who saw the ad thought the council deliberately left Trump out because of his inconsistent support of COVID-19 safety and precautions.
