9/11 Victims Families ‘Disappointed’ In Trump For Hosting Saudi-Backed Golf Tournament

Some of the families impacted by 9/11 do not want the Saudi-funded LIV golf tournament scheduled for this weekend at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, to take place.

They point to the newly released documents revealing that 15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudi citizens, although Saudi has maintained that they were not involved in the attacks.

Though the event will be held on a former President Donald Trump-owned golf course, Terry Strada, the national chair of 9/11 Families United, is holding President Joe Biden accountable.

“As far as President Trump holding a tournament right down the road in our backyard, you know we’re very disappointed in him. We don’t like it. He should know better,” Strada, who lost her husband during the tragic events of 9/11, said. “But he’s really not the issue. He’s not president any longer, he’s a nobody. In my opinion. For the way he’s treating us. We have a president that’s sitting in the White House right now that we’re going to demand he gives us answers.”

She added that it’s wrong to hold the event so close to the site of the worst terrorist attack in American history, especially since so many who lost their lives lived in New Jersey.

“750 innocent people from New Jersey were brutally murdered, leaving over 1,000 children in our towns without a parent, including my three,” Strada said. “Friends, neighbors and strangers embraced our suffering and helped us move through our devastation and pain.”

The event is also backed financially by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment fund which is chaired by Mohammed bin Salman, the de facto leader of the country.

PGA Tour players are expected to play at the tournament. One of golf’s greats, Tiger Woods, condemned those who have decided to play.

“I disagree with it,” he said. “I think that what they’ve done is they’ve turned their back on what has allowed them to get to this position.

LIV Golf responded in a statement.

“These families have our deepest sympathy,” it said. “While some may not agree, we believe golf is a force for good around the world.”
