80% Protesters Arrested In Minnesota Are From Outside State, May Be From White Supremacist Groups, Gov. Tim Walz Says

Several major cities in the United States have ordered curfews, but protesters continued the march at night, mourning the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

On Friday, Gov. Tim Walz (D-Minnesota) told reporters that 80% of the Minnesota protesters arrested are not residents of the state.

He also urged the protesters to honor Floyd in a peaceful manner.

“Our great cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul are under assault by people who do not share our values, who do not value life and the work that went into this and are certainly not here to honor George Floyd,” Walz said. “They need to see today that that line will stop and order needs to be restored.”

Floyd, a black man who showed no resistance while being arrested, died Monday after a white Minneapolis police officer, Derek Chauvin, kept his knee on his neck for eight minutes.

Reports also have it that some online communities, including white supremacist groups, also seems to systematically intend to hijack the protest for their own purposes.
